Stanley Beach
Stanley Beach (officially known as Stanley Main Beach) is one of Hong Kong's most accessible and family-friendly beaches. While not the largest beach on Hong Kong Island, its convenient location just steps away from Stanley Market and restaurants makes it a perfect spot to relax after shopping or dining. As an official gazetted beach managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), Stanley Beach provides excellent safety standards with shark prevention nets, professional lifeguards, and comprehensive facilities.
Swimming Season & Lifeguard Services
The official swimming season in Hong Kong runs from April through to the end of October. During this period, Stanley Beach is fully staffed with qualified lifeguards who operate during daylight hours (typically 9am-6pm in shoulder months, with extended hours during peak summer months of June through August). Outside the swimming season, lifeguard services are not available, though the beach remains accessible for walking and non-swimming activities.
Beach Facilities & Amenities
Stanley Beach is well-equipped with modern facilities to ensure visitor comfort and safety:
- Safety Features: Shark prevention nets, lifeguard stations, emergency equipment, and safety rafts
- Comfort Facilities: Changing rooms, shower facilities, toilets (including barrier-free accessible toilet)
- Recreation: 15 BBQ pits (perfect for family gatherings), beach volleyball area
- Dining: Fast food kiosk on-site, with numerous restaurants just a short walk away in Stanley village
Perfect for Families
Stanley Beach is particularly popular with families thanks to its calm waters, supervised swimming area, and proximity to other attractions. The nearby Stanley Plaza features children's playground, while the Stanley Market offers easy shopping for beach necessities. The combination of beach, dining, shopping, and historical sites like Murray House makes Stanley an ideal destination for a full day out.
