Stanley Market Fees & Prices: What a Visit Costs in 2026

πŸ’΄ Prices verified October 2026

  • Market entry: FREE β€” a public market lane, no ticket, open daily 10:00–18:30
  • Citybus route 6 (Central ↔ Stanley Market): HK$11.4 adult, HK$5.7 child/senior
  • Red taxi flagfall: HK$29 for the first 2 km
  • Aqua Luna Stanley cruise: from HK$330 one-way / HK$420 round trip, adult

Stanley Market is free to walk into, and so is almost everything around it β€” the promenade, the pier, the beaches and the temples all cost nothing. The real spending in Stanley is getting here, because this is the far southern tip of Hong Kong Island and every route involves a proper journey. Below is exactly what the trip and the visit cost, using the official Citybus route fares and the government taxi tariff, with the more informal prices β€” parking, boat trips β€” clearly marked as observed rather than published.

Is there an entry fee?

No. Stanley Market is a public market lane, not a ticketed attraction. There is no gate, no admission charge and no booking β€” you simply walk in, and the market opens daily from about 10:00 to 18:30. When to come, and which mornings are quietest, is covered on our when to go page.

βœ… What is free in Stanley

Every one of these costs nothing to visit: the Stanley Promenade and shoreline, Blake Pier at Stanley, Murray House (exterior and heritage grounds), Stanley Plaza, Stanley Main Beach (lifeguards and nets in the official April–October season), Stanley Ma Hang Park, and the Tai Wong, Tin Hau and Pak Tai temples. Temples are active places of worship β€” donations are optional, never an entrance fee.

Source: Citybus official route pages, verified October 2026 (route 6). A Sunday/public-holiday route 65 (North Point ↔ Stanley) also exists; check the Citybus app for its current fare before relying on it.

Choosing between the routes is a trade-off between speed and scenery: route 260 is the quicker run via the Aberdeen Tunnel, while the 6 goes over the hill and shows you the wooded south side of the island. Full directions, from every district, are on our getting there hub and the detailed route 6 guide.

Green minibus 40 from Causeway Bay

The green minibus 40 (Jardine's Bazaar, Causeway Bay ↔ Stanley Village, operated by AMS) is a useful alternative. The full fare is HK$13.1 (operator-derived listing, verified October 2026). Minibuses take Octopus, but seats are limited and they fill quickly at weekends.

Taxi β€” official tariff

Charge Amount (HK$)
Flagfall (first 2 km) HK$29
Each additional 200 m or minute of waiting HK$2.10
Rate after the meter passes HK$102.50 HK$1.40
Luggage (per piece) HK$6

Source: Hong Kong Transport Department fare notice (info.gov.hk), effective 14 July 2024 and unchanged in 2026. Taxis must offer at least two e-payment methods since 1 April 2026.

Driving and parking

Parking at Stanley Plaza is quoted at roughly HK$27 per hour, with rates varying by time of day β€” but this is an aggregator figure, not an official published tariff, so confirm on arrival. If you are driving, factor in the journey time too: Stanley is a long way from the city centre and the coastal road can be slow at weekends.

Optional paid experiences

Junk boat cruises to Stanley

The Aqua Luna "Stanley Cruise" sails from Victoria Harbour to Stanley and back. The operator's official adult prices start at HK$330 one-way and HK$420 round trip, with child fares around HK$200 (one-way) and HK$270 (round trip). Resale platforms occasionally advertise lower headline prices, so check what is actually included before booking.

Source: Aqua Luna operator site (aqualuna.com.hk), verified October 2026. Private junk charters, by contrast, are priced per group and can run well into four figures β€” always agree the full-inclusive rate in advance.

The non-obvious costs

  • Bargaining. Stanley is a market, and stallholders expect a good-natured negotiation β€” opening around 30–40% below the asking price is the local convention. Cash is preferred; some shops take Octopus and card. (Observed.)
  • Toilets. Free public facilities are available at Stanley Plaza and near the beach.
  • No lockers. There is no official locker service at the market β€” do not plan around one.

Currency

Prices are in Hong Kong dollars (HK$). As a rough guide, HK$1 β‰ˆ US$0.128, so the HK$11.4 bus fare is about US$1.46. The dollar is pegged to the US dollar at roughly 7.75–7.85, so conversions are stable but should still be treated as approximate.

How to pay

Bus and minibus: tap on with Octopus, or pay exact cash. Taxi: metered, with e-payment now mandatory. Market stalls: cash, with Octopus and card at many shops. Boat trips: book online through the operator in advance. There is nothing to buy to enter Stanley itself β€” the only thing you must arrange is how you get there.

Prices verified October 2026. Citybus fares and the taxi tariff are official operator/government figures. Parking, boat pricing at resale and bargaining norms are observed and indicative. Route 65's fare is deliberately omitted because it could not be confirmed from an official source at the time of checking.

FOOD AND SHOPPING

While often visited for the view the visitor should not forget that The Market encompasses a wide range of shopping and dining options, from the casual to the sophisticated.Β  Within the Stanley area are examples of many of Hong Kong's most authentic and distinctive styles, as well as international choices to fit all palates and budgets.
